Silas and Maria

Just been checking out Rift Trooper's site and he mentioned that the Silas and Maria website had been updated. It's well worth a look.

It's always good to get in touch with some old friends and for them to tell you what they are upto now. So check out Supa 7. Some nice t-shirts and a nice little attitude to doing something a slightly different way.

Kanye West

Late Registration
There are some horribly obvious samples on this album but they are used so effectively it doesn't even matter. I was never too impressed with College Dropout but there is no denying his flow. Some good guests this time too (but, Brandy??? Who knew she was still alive? Guess those Moesha royalties are drying up...). Pick it up tomorrow.

Stand out tracks:
Touch the Sky feat Lupe Fiasco
Drive Slow feat Paul Wall
Diamonds from Sierra Leone (Remix) feat Jay Z

Now, I am no musical expert and I don't claim to be, but I love Can and I can see why so many people give them the props that they truly deserve. I discovered a new Can track tonight and it is Moonshake. Now this is an awesome track, it's got oen hell of a groove on it and I always love it when bands use musical instruments you are not expecting. Sure, I could say that Vitamin C is totally amazing, but from Ege Bam Yesi, I really love I'm So Green. The beat is killer and I believe that Cut Chemist has sampled it on a remix somewhere, but it's just so funky and wicked and it makes me smile and do a little jig.

So next time you are going to buy a cd, why not buy some Can?

Seems like there is going to be a Money Mark Kubrick figure for his next album. Check out Kubrick World for more info.

Welsh Rare Beat

I remember ages ago (about 2 or 3 years ago) I mentioned that Andy Votel was going to do a record label called Finders Keepers. Anyway, the third release from this label is out on Monday. It's called Welsh Rare Beat and it sounds wicked. Lots of mad Welsh tunes which sound cracking to me. Gruff Rhys from the Super Furry Animals has helped out as well! Check it out from Monday in all good record stores. The cd version has 1 more track than the vinyl version.

Danger Doom

Put October the 17th in your diaries! Danger Doom, the collaboration between MF Doom and Danger Mouse will be out on that day! This will be out on the Lex Records label and I can't wait for this one to drop. Watch out for a sneaky litmited 12" before the album comes out as well.

Strictly Kev interview

There is an excellent interview with Strictly Kev from Open Mind over at the I Really Love Music website!

Keith Haring @ Ikea

I was in Ikea tonight trying to pick up the latest catalogue, but they had none. Anyway, I was in the art section and they had a nice little 5 pack of cards using Keith Haring's art work. Not bad for only £2! My top tip for Ikea at the moment.

Pete Fowler - Monsterism Island

It seems as if Pete Fowler (Super Furry Animals and The Magic Numbers artwork creator) has been let loose and has compiled a compilation cd called Monsterism Island. I have to say that I love his advert on the tv just now for that car. Top stuff. Anyway, the compilation looks like it is full of crazy rock tunes with songs from the Silver Apples and Aphrodite's Child, as well as loads of others! Top stuff. I think it is out in September.
